To Each His Own Essay Example For Students

To Each His Own Essay Perhaps the soonest memory is of me, eyes shut, stooping by my bed, quietly revealing to God everything that I was appreciative for. I had seen an on-screen character do it in a film, and it persuaded my handily affected, unfledged, youthful self to attempt it, ideally bringing about the beginning of an involved acquaintance with God. I had a go at asking a couple of more occasions throughout the years, and, each time, it felt like I had called Heaven, and was sent directly to phone message. Eight days after my introduction to the world, I had my bris, or circumcision function. From that day on, in agreement to my Jewish mother’s will, I rehearsed Judaism. We will compose a custom article on To Each His Own particularly for you for just $16.38 $13.9/page Request now Each Sunday, I went to the main sanctuary in San Antonio, and found out about Jewish convictions, conventions, qualities, and practices. When class finished, I would get into the secondary lounge of my recuperating Catholic, brought into the world again Atheist father’s naval force blue Forerunner, to be welcomed by the inquiry that has brought about more slaughter than whatever other inquiry that has ever been posed: â€Å"Is there a God? † I obliged learning Hebrew, going to Sunday school, and every single other thing that were required by the sanctuary, until there was increasingly more discussion about my affirmation service. In Judaism, getting affirmed implies that one makes the pledge to rehearse the religion for a mind-blowing rest. Since I had been a moderately faithful supporter for the entirety of my pre-pubescent life, getting affirmed was thought of as something that was clear. In any case, in every one of the fourteen years, I had never discovered any importance in the writings, felt any security with the Jewish people group, or built up such an association with God. I asked myself, â€Å"Just on the grounds that my own fragile living creature and blood, and a great many others, think something, does that make it without a doubt valid? This inquiry evoked many, numerous considerations and began in an inward fight, the members being two incomprehensibly various methods of thought. At long last, I concluded that I didn't trust in a God, prodding my choice to not get affirmed, which straightforwardly brought about the farewell party among Judaism and I. In the wake of hearing my goals to not rehearse Judaism any longer, my dad was practically impassive, content with any decision I made all alone. My mom, then again, didn’t take my choice quite well. Going to administrations on Yom Kippur is the standard in Reform Judaism, and, since the time I admitted to my mistrust in God, she for all intents and purposes gave me reasons to not go to them. It appeared as though she was trying to claim ignorance of my strict perspectives, never needing to go up against them head on. Right up 'til today, we still haven’t had a conversation concerning our contrasting strict perspectives, however a solid feeling of ‘live and let live’ has gotten evident in our family life. I was naturally introduced to an exceptionally liberal family, that is tolerating of a remarkably wide scope of sentiments, so the value that I needed to pay, which was a little clash concerning the varying convictions in my family, was ephemeral, finishing nearly when it began. The positives all additional to my self-awareness, helping me become the straightforward, obstinate, and tolerating individual that I am today. A couple of months back, I discovered on a Twain quote that impeccably typifies my manner of thinking. He recommends â€Å"whenever you wind up on the larger part, the time has come to delay and reflect. His knowledge can be applied to any choice, large or little, that has, and will, at any point been made. It impeccably clarifies why I tested a conviction that has been held in my family since before the American Gilded Age, which, circumstantially, was named by Twain himself. My folks ingrained in me the benefit of posing inquiries where there is question, to not acknowledge everything that I am told, and expected, to accept. They raised me to be an intellectual, who follows just when following is relevant. My grandma passed on a couple of years after I first straightforwardly came up short on a faith in God, so I was certain that when you bite the dust, you pass on. .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a , .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a .postImageUrl , .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a .focused content territory { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a , .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a:hover , .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a:visited , .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a:active { border:0!important; } .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a { show: square; change: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-progress: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; darkness: 1; change: obscurity 250ms; webkit-progress: haziness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a:active , .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a:hover { murkiness: 1; progress: mistiness 250ms; webkit-progress: obscurity 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a .focused content region { width: 100%; position: re lative; } .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; text-beautification: underline; } .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; fringe span: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; textual style weight: striking; line-tallness: 26px; moz-outskirt range: 3px; text-adjust: focus; text-adornment: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-stature: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/straightforward arrow.png)no-rehash; position: total; right: 0; top: 0; } .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .ucac0f7c3 1ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a .focused content { show: table; tallness: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .ucac0f7c31ed977fdb10ca04554a0063a:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: 10 distinct forms of the game EssayI was extremely near her, and didn’t assume the misfortune well overall. Socrates Definition Of The Good Life Is Being Able To Fulfill

Socrates definition of the good life is being able to fulfill the â€Å"inner life† by inquiring and expanding the mind to the greatest extent possible. Socrates would agree with the good life being more important than life itself. If today’s society was asked the question regarding which one is more important, my guess will be that not many will even be able to differentiate. It will be a very controversial discussion with a lot of bias opinions. David Hume is one of the philosophers who would disagree with Socrates. Socrates was against the escape plan and he gave really good reasons to why he d isagreed with Crito. Socrates was not guilty for his accusation. If he were to escape then everyone would think otherwise. Socrates said his occupation as a philosopher was following what the gods commanded. Therefore, living life without practicing philosophy would not be worth it. There was only one way to define the good life, and that is a life of knowledge. I have to agree with the good life being more important for human beings however, I think that in today’s society there is more than one definition or understanding to what the good life is. Socrates made it clear that the good life is a life filled with knowledge and wisdom. In today’s society the good life would be defined as the American Dream. The American Dream is just a way of measuring the so called happiness of life with tangibles. In that aspect I completely disagree. I have been working at a country club for almost three years now and I can see why so many people have that misconception. I personally agree with Socrates. My Experiences Listening to a Live Performance of...

My Experiences Listening to a Live Performance of Christian McBride Big Band. I have never been in a jazz club before. I always wanted to attend a live performance of American jazz musicians and learn more about the history of jazz. It was one of the reasons I chose this class in the first place. From my perspective, I view jazz together with classical instrumental music as elegant and exclusive. I associate it with luxurious restaurants, theaters, places like Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, where people with great taste and deep understanding of music come to enjoy performances and celebrate important moments in their life. For my final paper I had an opportunity to visit the famous Village Vanguard jazz club on January 12th, 2014.†¦show more content†¦I am not even sure which part was improvisation and which part was planned because Blake’s solos sounded very cerebral, relaxing, harmonious, soulful and pure. Todd Bashore, an alto saxophonist, sounded to me more di scordant, extremely energetic, fast, brisk, and unstoppable. Bashore seemed to want to show his best skills in improvisation on his alto saxophone and it looked like he could do it for hours. Steve Wilson, an alto saxophonist who was sitting next to him, kind of gave him hints that it was time to stop. I found it was interesting and pleasant to see how passionate a musician can be in his play, so much that time stops for him while he is in the flow state. I really liked Ron Blake because I associated him somehow with John Coltrane, but playing slower and calmer. Ron Blake’s music sounded to me like a mellow, sensual mix of modal jazz, cool jazz and smooth jazz in Shake and Blake and Black Narcissist. What I liked about Steve Wilson was that during almost the entire performance he sat, eyes closed and joyfully moving his head with the rhythm of the melody. I could feel easiness and bluesiness in his musical approach when he played Shake and Blake, Black Narcissus, and Gettingà ¢â‚¬â„¢ to It. Christian McBride won my heart with his incredible sense of humor and extraverted personality. I could see that he is a wonderful leader because he showed his respect and appreciation to his band and especially Ron Blake, to whom he referred to

The project will cost $ 4 million and the benefits are expected to have a useful life of 15 years. the required amount that is, $ 4 million is to be financed by Sino production at a reduced interest rate of 4% per annum for the up gradation of the subsidiary Tangram dairies (Sino Manufacturing Solutions, 2017). It can be identified from the budgeted sales and profit forecast for the next 5 years before and after the up-gradation that if the company does not opt for the up-gradation, then it will earn a profit of 15%, 20%, 22%, 25% and 27% respectively over the years from 2017 to 2021 on its sales. However, if the company goes for up-gradation then for initial two years it will earn a profit of 10% and 18% respectively, which is lower than the profit that will be achieved if the company does not go for up-gradation. However, from 3rd year, that is from 2019 to 2021, it will earn higher profit as compared to the non-up gradation and moreover, the rate of profit will also be much higher, for instance, 24%, 30% and 34% respectively over the years from 2019 to 2021. Therefore, if the company can ignore the short-term benefits and can think for long-term benefits then they must opt for up-gradation of the product line to overcome the production constraint (Irish Dairy board, 2017). UNchallenged Essays - Educators, Occupations, Teacher, Teaching

"when a school child remains unchallenged he or she shuts down and looses interest and they shut down all together"-Bessie Hogan. I agree with Bessie Hogan that if a child goes unchallenged or not retaining any of the information given by the educator, the child will lose focus and the teacher will fail at the task at hand. Because education sometimes goes through the cracks as not challenged and the student is left behind causing controversy, therefore casing people to come with proper solutions. I stand firmly resolved that; Teachers pay should be tied to students performance in the classrooms. In support of my resolution let me offer the following 3 contentions: first, teacher?s payroll should be tied to a student?s achievement you pump enthusiasm into the schools and the classrooms, secondly it will cause the teachers to work harder and more ambitiously. Thirdly, great teachers will have that extra boost to perform better and reach the achievement gap. The important question concerning this issue is: Shouldn't teachers receive rewards or suffer penalties based on student?s performance? My first contention is that teacher?s payroll should be tied to how well a student performs in school. The teachers are hired to teach and educate the minds of youth. Hard as it may be we need teachers who can perform and complete the task at hand putting the teacher?s paycheck. On their performance. Many people don't want to go through with the plan but it has be proven benefited in private schools. It was shown that when in the private schools the teachers successfully pass 90% of their students and the teachers pay shows the great accomplishments. It also would pump more enthusiasm class room and give teachers and student a sense of importance and make them want to be there obtaining the information My second contention states that if teachers pay is tied to how well a teacher can teach then the educator will work ambitiously and harder in order to accomplish what they are set out to do. Giving extra money to a teachers? pay check is something that is long over due teachers are under paid and over looked all the time for some of the things the set off to do. Mrs. Chowan a teacher from South Dakota strived for excellence when she was faced with a huge problem in trying to get one of her student athletes up to level to play in the game. Tim the athlete was way below average and needed to past in order to play in the game which would determine his future. Chowan worked diligently and dedicated her time to not only gets Tim eligible for the game she even got him to move two letter grades up. That's what kind of teachers we need and her pay reflects that. My last and finally contention is that tying teachers pay to the student performance won't be such a punishment, it would be an incentive something more of as a challenge for teachers everywhere to compete and get their students to the fill that achievement gap. Even though in this day and time we find teachers who only come into the profession to earn a paycheck and don?t care if a student is failing as long as at the pay period they are receiving a check with their names on it. But having the their pay tied to the students performance will eliminate the quote on quote bad teacher because it causes them to actually have to try and work to get that a higher wage of salary and who wouldn?t want to get paid at a higher wage. But it will better benefit the student because the child is learning and comprehending the information rather than putting out to do a task without instructions. In conclusion teachers pay should be tied to the performance of the student in order to get better results in the education taught to the students because we need great teacher who can lead the way and provides us with the tools and the knowledge to perform well in the real world.

How the Nervous System works and How Drugs Affect It essays

How the Nervous System works and How Drugs Affect It essays The nervous system is the control system and the network of communication for the body. All of our thoughts, and behavior can be traced to the activity of a neuron. A typical neuron has three important parts: first a cell body, second dendrites and last an axon. All three parts are important for our daily functions. Drugs however such as cocaine can alter these actions and have short and long term effects that arent always the best feeling. . The nervous system is made up of nerves, the spinal cord and the brain. The nerves control everything we do; they carry messages that tell us to move, to breathe, to feel and to think. Nerves run to the muscles, organs, heart, lungs, blood vessels, brain-even to our teeth and skin. Neurons are the specialized cells that conduct impulses through the nervous system. There are about 100 billion neurons in just the brain. A neuron has three parts that make it up, a cell body, which carries metabolic functions, dendrites being branched fibers which are the primary receivers of the impulses from other neurons, and axons that are slender tail like extensions that are the transmitting end that sprouts into many braches each ending in an axon terminal. Axon terminals are what transmits signals to the dendrites or cell bodies of other neurons, muscles, glands and so forth. Amazingly the billions of neurons are not physically connected. The way the neurons communicate is possible because of the synapse. The synapse is where the axon of a sending neuron joins the receiving neuron across the synaptic cleft. All neurons travel by being fired by biological electricity, because the body has ions that have positive and negative charges. Neurons that are negative charged are not firing which is called resting potential. When the reversal of resting potential occurs the neuron fires, this is called action potential. The action potential operates according to the all or ...

The IOM Future of Nursing report related to the nursing workforce Essay

The IOM Future of Nursing report related to the nursing workforce - Essay Example Importance of the IOM â€Å"Future of Nursing† Report Nurses practice in various settings such as schools, retail health clinics, battlefields, public health centers, long-term care facilities, homes, and hospitals. They have differing levels of competencies and education in the entire nursing sector. The committee put into consideration nurses at all levels including their settings, education levels, and roles in an attempt to envision the profession’s future (Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, 2011). The Future of Nursing report is very important since it addresses some of issues facing nurses such as differing education and competency levels. Several barriers obstruct the nurses from responding effectively to the rapidly transforming health settings as well as the evolving health care system. The barriers have to be overcome to make sure that nurses are in a good position to advance health and lead change. Apart from seeking to remove these barriers, the report recommends the improvement of the nursing education system. This is because patients’ needs are becoming more sophisticated and thus, the nurses have to attain requisite competencies in order to deliver care that is of high quality (Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, 2011). ... Some of the main issues raised by the report are that nurses should practice to the greatest extent considering their training and eductaion; and that the education system that is in place to train nurses should be improved so as to encourage higher training and education of nurses for better servieces(Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, 2011). In this respect, the report recommends that varous boards, government bodies, accrediting societies and healthcare organizations should support nurses during their residency once they have successfully completed the prerequisite courses or when they are taking new areas related to clinical pratice. In addition, the report recommends that the proportion of nurses holding a baccalaureate degree should be inreased from 50% to 80% and the number of nurses with a doctorate dregree doubled by 2020 (Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, 2011). In order to achieve this goal, academic nurse leaders should join forces and partner with other organizations to establish a workforce that is responsive to the diverse healthcare needs of the population. Furthermore, the report notes that nurses should participate fully in redisigning the country’s health care. Yet again, the report notes that better information collection and infrustructure is valuable if effective policies have to be made and the workforce properly planned. The Intent of the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action The Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action represents an exceptional initiative to tackle the elevated demands for care by using all the talents, experience, skills, and knowledge of nurses. The main aim of the Campaign for Action is to manage the implementation of the IOM landmark report recommendations. The campaign

Causes of World War I Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Causes of World War I - Research Paper Example The second industrial revolution also resulted in unprecedented horrors of war just because this was an industrial war that saw for the first time weapons like machine gun, barbed wire, heavy artillery, tanks, airplanes and zeppelins, bombs and grenades, poisonous gas, submarines and gunboats (Junger, 1920). The   steam   engine   and development of rail lines meant   that   more   artillery   could   be   deployed   to   the   armies, and   the   armies   could   be   kept   clothed, fed, and   armed   indefinitely   (Junger, 1920; Best et al., 2004). The result was unprecedented volume of casualties. For example, in 1916 alone, the Germans lost 850,000 men, French lost 700,000 and the British lost 400,000 men (Merriman, ---year, 907).  Q2: The   nature   of   the   â€Å"The   Great   War†.  The   nature   of   WWI   was   grim and not even closer to what was anticipated   by   the   countries   when    they   decided   to   stage   it. Two of the elements that made it really grim were that it was a â€Å"total war† and also an industrial war. A â€Å"total war† in this context means that it was a global war involving nations across the world, secondly, it was a war in which the nations were totally equipped in terms of weapons and technology to wage an unprecedented war, and thirdly, it actually brought into the battle field, all the social, political and economical resources available for all nations involved. It could be called a global war just because the European states collected the resources needed for war from its Asian and African colonies, and troupes and laborers were imported into Britain and France from these colonies. The Middle East, Japan and the USA were also participants in the war in one way or other. The role of industrialization in deciding the nature of the war was also manifold. As â€Å"mechanized production† replaced the à ¢â‚¬Å"primacy of agriculture†, international trade grew resulting in the emergence of a more influential public (Best et al., 2004).5 Another consequence of this was that the public â€Å"

Defining Race and Ethnicity Essay Example for Free

Defining Race and Ethnicity Essay The term â€Å"race† means to me a group of people with the similar backgrounds and cultures. Race can also be defined as a species of people. Society defines race as the color of your skin but this is a myth. Race is more than the color of your skin; it is your lineage and heritage. It is who you are. The term â€Å"ethnic† means belonging to races or nations based on distinctions of race or ethnological. Ethnic is when you relate to a sizable group of people and share a common and distinctive racial, national, religious, linguistic, or cultural heritage. When I hear the word ethnic, I associate it with the race of black people. I’m not sure why but somewhere in my life, this was instilled in my mind. I have read somewhere that this word means heathens. I don’t agree with this analogy of the word but society has labeled this word to mean something bad. Ethnic has also been defined as a group of people who denounce Christianity. These concepts are important in today’s society because of the issues of racism and prejudice. People should not be classified by the color of their skin but by their citizenships. All people that were born in America should be classified as Americans alone, not White, Blacks, Latinos, Mexicans. These terms border on the issue of prejudice and racism. This is a very touchy subject and one has to be careful not to offend anyone when addressing these issues. It is important that when people are classified by race, that the proper terms are use when identifying these groups. Some black people prefer to be called â€Å"African Americans† rather than black and vice versus. Prejudice is a big issue in our nation and needs to be overcome. No one wants to be discriminated against no matter what their race or ethnic background is.

Interpretation of Muirs Horses Essay -- Muir Horses Essays

Interpretation of Muir's Horses My interpretation of Edwin Muir's poem entitled "Horses" is one of a past memory and the conflict and anger brought about by this memory , a conflict between light and darkness, good and evil in the mind of a elderly dying man, fearing death as he gazes out across a field. The memory being that of a day from his past, where he as a child farm worker watched a team of horses ploughing the stubble back into the field during a rainy day which gets progressively more stormy. The horses making their way to and fro across the field leaving furrows, the setting sunlight breaking through the clouds picking out images in the distance. Images getting darker and more vivid as the horses drew nearer. A symbolic religious conflict being acted out between good and evil with almost mythological qualities, leading to a crescendo of images eventually fading to the old man lamenting and wishing to be as that child, at the beginning of his life with all the purity and innocence that children have. The poem has the distant images of horses as a t...

Investigate how PH affects the ability of raw meat to absorb water – Plan

I am planning an experiment to investigate how PH affects the ability of raw meat to absorb water. * Independent Variable The independent variable for this experiment is the PH of the solution the steak is marinated in. I will achieve a range of different PH values by using buffers set at PH 1, 3, 5, 7, 9. I predict that there will be an optimum PH where the steak will absorb the most water. The amount of water absorbed by the raw meat will increase as you increase the PH up to the optimum and then decrease the PH as the PH increases past the optimum. * Dependent Variable The dependent variable for this experiment is the amount of water absorbed by the diced steak by process of osmosis. I will record this by recording the mass before and the mass after marination. From these results I can calculate the percentage change in mass so that I can compare the different results with each other. I will calculate the percentage change by : Change x 100 Original * Controlled Variables The main control variables for this experiment are : Each of the 5 buffer solutions should have the same volume of 50ml and the same concentration. If one beaker had more than another then there would be more solution to act on the meat therefore tenderising it more. This could alter the end percentage change in mass. The mass of the diced steak before marination needs to be controlled. A larger mass could potentially absorb and store more water. I will try to get as similar masses as possible to avoid any differences in weight. Instead of calculating the difference in mass, I will calculate percentage change in mass to account for any small differences in mass. Also a constant surface area of the diced steak is important, otherwise there would be a larger area for the solution to act on causing more tenderisation therefore altering the overall results. The temperature at which the meat is marinated at would need to remain constant. At a higher temperature, molecules are moving faster therefore osmosis is more likely to occur. The experiment will be conducted at room temperature, although a more scientific method would be the use of an incubator. I will conduct the experiment in the same place so that each test is experiencing the same temperature changes. The time allowed for marination, each steak should be in the buffer solution for 12 hours all getting the same length of time otherwise a longer time could provide an opportunity for more water to be absorbed. Drying of the steak pieces, dab twice on each side. If some are dabbed more than the other it would alter the end percentage change in mass. * Method ? Divide the diced steak into five equally sized piles. ? Using electronic scales weigh each pile to make the masses as similar as possible. Record the masses. ? Add 50ml of buffer solution PH1 to a beaker and repeat the process for the other buffer solutions. ? Put one set of diced steak into each beaker. ? Leave the 5 beakers for 12hours allowing the raw meat to marinate. ? Remove the dices from the solution and pat dry before weighing. ? Record the mass of each pile and calculate the percentage change in mass by using formula : Change x 100 Original ? Repeat the experiment 3 times to ensure an accurate set of results. ? Plot a graph of PH against percentage change in mass.
